TRISH JUBB ARTIST AND TUTOR
Students with learning disabilities and Autism
I have been running creative sessions with people with Learning Disabilities since volunteering with a Gateway Club as a young adult. Many years of running art and craft sessions for this group have been followed by my leading creative sessions for many groups and working for people including the Poole Art Development Team, Bournemouth Council, another Gateway club and now Doodle-Art of Weymouth. I also run sessions for people on the autistic spectrum including locally at DAAS (Aspergers) and the Autscape conference/retreat (the conference for Autistic people).
I enjoy the challenge of making my sessions widely accessible, with activities which can be completed in a simplified or complex form, and where participants do as much as possible of the activity themselves with whatever support is required, rather than watching someone else do it for them. As an example, whilst one person may draw and cut out a shape, another may need it drawn so they can cut it and yet another may use the scissors while I guide the paper or help me hold special two person scissors.
