Life Drawing and Portraiture
Regular Life Drawing and Portrait sessions. Pay-as-you-go. Suitable for all abilities. Tutored sessions, but feel free to work independently for all or part of the session.
Life Drawing
A lively approach to drawing the human figure - regular sessions in the Bournemouth and Poole area.
Clothed Life Drawing
A similar session to Life Drawing but rather than drawing the nude we have a model in top and trousers or similar.
Portrait
Costumed model, one pose - a good chance to get out the paints! Guidance for those who want it.
Working Without a Model (Currently online - see Online Classes)
A chat and create session. Very informal, a chance to work on whatever you want to, with support where required. Whereas initially this was in a venue and Trish would bring a large selection of books and pictures and give individual help including, as required, loosening/warming up exercises, or different aspects of drawing (recently some people asked about different types of pencil, and about drawing boxes). It is also possible to work on other things such as papier mache models (see Paper 'n' Glue Creations).
All Day Workshops
Day-long Life Drawing workshops. These are pre-book only with a deposit. These have proved surprisingly popular with beginners and improvers as there is now guidance offered for those who don't want to work totally independently.
What to expect at sessions
The intention is to provide the type of sessions we would like to attend - with the flexibility of pay-as-you-go, a variety of venues and models and varied activities. Do look at the comments from people who have attended sessions which will give you an idea how people have felt at the sessions!
Whilst the whole subject of drawing is taken seriously, tutored sessions are lively and engaging, introducing a variety of techniques and ideas which are delivered with humour. Individuality and independence are encouraged, and activities are adjusted to the ability of the artist, whether beginner or experienced.
The aim is not so much to get a finished drawing as to explore different techniques, increase confidence, encourage personal style. Newcomers are surprised how fast they progress. Some more experienced artists may opt to work untutored some or all of the time (do say if you prefer this) but most enjoy joining in. There are warm ups followed by a range of activities both traditional and new to inspire, and a longer pose where one to one help is available.
Most venues have a café or some way of making drinks during the break.
There is a regular newsletter with dates and a weekly text for those who find it helpful (you can request this via the contact page).
